The Incubator Series

Throughout this season, we will hold a series of panels that offer an exploration and dissection of some of the current ideas, issues, and ideologies linked to being a theatre artist right now. These discussions will give artists an opportunity to learn from their colleagues, ask questions, speak their minds, and to feel supported and inspired by their peers. The Incubator Series is a place of gathering, collaboration, and inspiration—where ideas begin and flourish.

Held at the BMO Theatre Centre, each panel discussion is curated and hosted by a local professional theatre artist. All events are FREE, but registration is required.

DISSECTING ART FROM THE ARTIST
Is it important or possible to distance art from the artist who created it? Should we even try, or are they intrinsically linked? Can we, or should we, still enjoy a piece of art made by a harmful artist?
Host: Monice Peter

ROLE OF THE ARTIST IN THIS CLIMATE MOMENT
In the midst of a pandemic and global climate crisis, how much can art actually change, push the scope, and further a positive climate agenda? What are we not doing? What realities do we need to face head-on to make substantial impacts?
Host: Kendra Fanconi
April 2022 date TBD

THE UN-THEATRE MOVEMENT
What does it mean to create "theatre," and who gets to create it? Who are the artists creating work on the periphery of theatre, what kind of work are they making, and how are they creating unique experiences for audiences?
Host: TBD
