SOCIAL SERIES
The Arts Club started as a scrappy bar on Seymour Street 1958 and became a local hub for artists. Although that bar no longer exists, the Social Series is one way for us to return to those roots and create community gathering spaces for local creatives and community members.
Join us for Broadway Open Mics, Scratch Nights for playwrights, cabaret nights, and more!
Are you ready to unleash your inner Broadway star? Join us at our musical theatre open mic events with live piano accompaniment! Whether you want to sing your favourite showtune or just enjoy the show, we can’t wait to share in our love for musical theatre.
Performance sign-up is first-come, first-served with limited availability, so be sure to arrive when doors open at 7:00 PM to claim your spot. Bring your own sheet music or peruse our small selection of pieces to perform in front of friends and community members. Tickets are available online using a Pay-What-You-Choose model, starting from $5* (we recommend a price of $15 to help us cover our artistic & guest services expenses).
FAQs
Q. How do I sign up to sing?
A. There will be a sign-up sheet at the door, where you can select your desired slot on a first-come, first-served basis. It will open when doors open.
Q. What songs can I sing? Do I have to bring my own sheet music?
A. You can sing anything from the musical theatre canon. We have a very limited selection of sheet music that you can borrow, but we recommend bringing your own if you have a particular song in mind.
Q. How long should my song be?
A. We want to give as many people as possible the chance to sing so please keep your song under 5 minutes.
Q. Do I have to sing by myself?
A. No! Duets and groups are welcome, but please note that only two microphones will be available.
Q. Do I have to be a trained singer?
A. No! This event is just for fun. It’s open to everyone in the community, whether you have been on Broadway or just sung along to a cast album in your car!
Q. Do I have to sing?
A. No, everyone is welcome to attend. Come cheer on your friends and community members and enjoy the show!
Q. Can I bring a backing track?
A. No, we will have a live piano accompanist, so, unfortunately, we cannot accommodate backing tracks.

Ever wanted to be part of a new play reading? At Scratch Night, you’ll have the chance to do just that. Guests can sign up as a writer (bring your pages!) or a reader (bring your love of cold reading!)—think of it as ‘karaoke for playwrights.’ Writers can share up to 10 minutes of their work, and readers are assigned randomly based on registration. This is a fun, lighthearted mixer for playwrights, actors, and fans of new plays alike.
