A MULTIMEDIA SPECTACLE TO DEFINE A GENERATION
“A can’t-miss theatrical experience” —The Calgary Sun
Rick Miller, one of Canada’s most noted and prolific solo performers, presents “25 years in 100 minutes” in this innovative mixed-media work that weaves characters and events. Using a selection of archival videos and photography, and giving spot-on impersonations of over 100 notable figures, Miller guides us through over two decades of history in documentary-like style. BOOM breaks down misconceptions and stereotypes, and explores the legacy of key events and figures that had an impact on the generation coming of age in the post-war years.
Running time: 2 hours, including one intermission
Rick Miller will also host a talk back with the audience after each performance.
"Visually dazzling" —Jo Ledingham, The Vancouver Courier
"Theatric creativity of the highest magnitude" —Baird Blackstone, Broken Legs Reviews
"Spell-binding" —John Jane, Review Vancouver
"Brilliant, creative, and relevant. There have been many great plays over the years, but this one had that extra something–from the pure skill of delivering a one person show, to his musical talent, to the multimedia imagery–Rick Miller has created a play that is one of a kind...and a great history lesson from the 20th century too! Thank you for a great evening"
–Kathleen, North Vancouver
"I saw BOOM at the Citadel in Edmonton a couple of months ago. I was so excited to see it being performed at the Granville Island Stage that I bought tickets for my son and his girlfriend for Christmas. He is 23 and I am 62!! We both thought that it was the most incredible, talent-filled two hours that we have spent in a theatre. We loved BOOM, and if you have not seen this brilliant performance, buy tickets as soon as you can!! I am often in Vancouver visiting my son and love the Arts Club!!"
–Sandy, Mayerthorpe, AB
"The show was excellent"
"Brilliant! Hilarious and thought provoking"
"We loved the show! Rick Miller captured the boomer years brilliantly and with such talent and creativity. Being boomers ourselves, it was a very fun walk down memory lane. We would love our kids to see it"
"Great show! Liked it so much that we are coming back to see it again this weekend (with friends)"
–Wally, Port Coquitlam
"The show was fantastic. We liked it so much we would see it again but we are away now until end of April. We have recommended it to all our friends"
–Susan, North Vancouver
"A one-man virtuoso. A visual and auditory history from 1945 to 1969 with headlines from each year. All the important events of the boomer era–from Gandhi's assassination to Martin Luther King's inspiration from Gandhi–all the dots are connected. The audience sings along to the very familiar songs. The set is simple but very powerful."
–Doug, North Vancouver
"Great, inventive show by a very talented performer. Brought back many memories and also told of things we weren't aware of. Have already recommended it to friends"
"I am so happy to have attended this incredible performance of BOOM. The music, choreography, and stories of this one-man show kept me entertained for the entire two hours. I wanted to hear more stories... Thank you for bringing BOOM to Vancouver."
"This is one of the best performances I have ever seen at the Arts club. The writer/actor captured the era perfectly. The playing of over fifty characters by one person is quite a feat"
"Excellent on all levels. A stunning performance. Well written and produced"
"This was an excellent history lesson. I lived through most of it and will try to get more young people to see it for a picture of what I, now a senior citizen, and my fellow seniors went through in our lifetime. And a standing ovation for Rick with his tribute to "Major Tom". RIP David B"
"Both my granddaughter and I have enjoyed all of the shows this season, but BOOM was exceptional. Rick Miller is so very talented, and the combination of the use of multimedia with his singing and acting talents, along with the interweaving of the three story lines was excellent. It was well worth the standing ovation he received! I would highly recommend that others experience this wonderful show"
"If you see only one show this year, BOOM is the one to see. If you are a baby boomer, or just love history, music and clever multimedia shows, you will LOVE this. Rick Miller (aka Janis Joplin, JFK, Churchill, Bob Denver, plus 96 more!) is a genius extraordinaire. Who needs the New York theatre scene when you have the Arts Club and Rick Miller?!"
–Jennifer, North Vancouver
"Absolutely a must-see performance for boomers and generations prior and after. Tremendous energy from the creator and performer Rick Miller. A wonderful telling of stories mixed with music and, of course, history lessons. Canada should be proud of such creative talent. Entertainment at its best"

"Wow–flashbacks of memories stored away in the vault! Brilliant staging and multimedia clips pull this whirlwind tour of the boomer generation together. Rick Miller has put together a winner"
"I saw BOOM in Halifax 3 months ago and was so pleased that it came to Vancouver that I saw it again last evening. It was even better than the first time I saw it. I will be seeing it once more–a 3rd time–before it leaves the city. The concept, story, production, graphics, and acting are brilliant. It deserved the standing ovation it got. Rate A+"
"This artist, his performance, and this production are all sheer genius!! This is a must see!!"

"An outstanding performance– an interesting depiction of history with humor and great music!"
"Best multimedia presentation I've ever seen. I do not usually enjoy such productions, but this one was so well done. The different mediums blended so well–seamless and complimentary. And such expansive talent on that stage–well done"
"Absolutely enjoyed the show! It was a great mixture of interesting facts, music, humour, and drama. The photos, film, and movie clips were so interesting! The talk-back feature after the show was a great way to wind down the experience. The acting by Rick Miller was superb! I am raving about it to all my friends and family. So glad that I am season subscriber!"

"One of the best Arts Club productions yet! Innovative, informative, nostalgic , and funny with great music to tie it all up into an entertaining show. Usually we don't stick around for the Q&A's but really glad we stayed to listen to Rick. Hope he gets going on the next generation. Can't wait!"
