TESTIMONIALS
Poppy Lam
Internship position: Tour Assistant
Field of Study: International Relations at UBC
“Starting my first professional job as a Co-op student, I was very intimidated and nervous. I had no idea what to expect from a corporate environment or how I was going to measure up. However, from my first day, the Arts Club team welcomed me with endless support, genuine warmth, and most importantly, funny jokes. I felt immediately at ease and never once felt stressed or pressured. Each challenge I encountered was met with encouragement. Working alongside and getting to know such wonderful people was truly a gift that I am incredibly grateful for! What I learned during my time here is invaluable, and it flew by in no time at all. After all, you know what they say…”

“I had a wonderfully insightful time working at the Arts Club as the Education Intern. I was able to work with and be mentored by an incredibly supportive and welcoming team of people ranging from the staff to the artists, students, and volunteers. I am incredibly grateful to the mentorship from Kevan Ellis, Mikenzie Page, and Amy Amantea in the Education department for helping me enrich my skills and love for arts education and community engagement. The projects, like the opportunity to facilitate and teach in the Summer Workshop Series, helped me to become a better artist, educator, and person because they taught me to prioritise the people in our communities. Thank you to the Arts Club for this phenomenal opportunity!”

“Having heard about the wonderful work that the Arts Club does for the community, I stepped into the BMO Theatre Centre with great excitement for my internship with the Development team, and I am happy to report that my experience exceeded all expectations. In working with the Development department, I completed a wide range of tasks, such as writing grant applications, conducting research, and working on promotional material. In this way, I developed a diverse and transferable set of skills, which have allowed me to step into my academic, as well as professional, future, with more confidence and ease. In addition to the valuable work experience, my internship at the Arts Club was elevated by the incredibly supportive and kind workplace culture. From my very first day, every member of the Development team went above and beyond to provide guidance, encourage cooperation, and facilitate growth. I am so grateful for my experience, and would like to thank everyone at the Arts Club for their support.”

“My internship (and subsequent career opportunities) at the Arts Club have been a life-changing experience. With the incredible support of the phenomenal Education team, I was able to find my passion in education and community engagement while learning in a supportive, inclusive, and fun environment. My internship taught me how to be a more confident facilitator, intentional educator, and has offered me invaluable professional opportunities to continue pursuing my love for theatre education. The Education team does essential and incredible work, not only for their staff, but for every person who interacts with their programming. Thank you to Kevan Ellis, Hila Graf, and Amy Amantea, for their continued support, kindness, and care they put into everything they do. This internship will always hold an incredibly profound, irreplaceable, and special place in my heart, and I am so thankful for all the knowledge and experiences that have been shared with me during my time here.”

“Working at the Arts Club was truly a fantastic experience. The environment is very special, and I loved coming to work every day and seeing all the wonderful staff, patrons, and volunteers. My time at the Arts Club has taught me what a supportive, creative, and inclusive environment can look like. Working in the Arts Club’s education department taught me how to plan and run arts and theatre related programming, for example, the Summer Workshop Series. It also strengthened my organizational skills and taught me how to problem-solve creatively. I learned a lot from watching the staff exchange ideas and work together. It is a welcoming community that I was grateful to be a part of!”
