Venus In Fur
- By David Ives
A Kinky Comedy
Young actress Vanda wants to land the lead in Venus in Fur, a new play based on the infamous novel that inspired the term “masochism.” During her charged audition for Thomas, the demanding writer-director, the role-playing turns into an erotically charged game, shifting the power dynamics and blurring the line between fantasy and reality. Quick-witted and seductive, this acclaimed comedy was the hit of last year’s Broadway season.
This show contains mature content.

"This season we upgraded to include Granville along with our season’s tickets at Stanley. We went to "Venus in Fur" last night – and all I can say is "WOW". We were completely floored by the play (in a GOOD way). I was trying to describe it this morning for my associate and I couldn’t stop talking about how good it was. One of the best things we have ever seen anywhere!"
"We both LOVED it!"
"Very well-done! I love the power in the words and characters. It gave us lots to talk about on the way home"
—Trish, Port Moody
"Riveting from the start. Actors were sensational and an hour and a half by went by in jig time. Excellent performance"
"Great performance last night. We couldn't believe that the actors held the stage for 90 minutes straight! The set was ok but felt too big for some of the more intense scenes. Overall, yet another terrific evening of theatre at the Arts Club. Bravo!"
"Great show. Lots of fun. Fast and flirty dialogue. Well-performed! Loved it"
"Three friends and I came to see Venus in Fur and all thought it was outstanding acting, dialogue and extremely entertaining. I wish I has stood up during applause, and they really did deserve a standing ovation. My apologies to the outstanding cast for being too shy to start the standing O"
—Monique, West Vancouver
"Masterful acting by both actors. Two-handed show is tough to do, but production team pulled it off beautifully. I don't think the audience appreciated them enough"
"Loved the show! Both actors were excellent and the direction was fabulous. Highly recommend it! Also loved that it went all the way through with no intermission -no break in the storyline or the action, and thus kept our attention"
"Passionate and provocative. This show is fantastic. Go see it before it closes"
"I thoroughly enjoyed Venus in Fur. It was presented in a very interesting perspective. The unbridled passion exhibited by the two characters remained stymied for the longest time; this certainly added a delicious sexual tension to the ambience on stage. I loved the easy manner with which Vanda and Thomas, the two characters, were able to transition from themselves to the characters of the 1870s. To watch a play within a play was most edifying and completely satisfying. The Arts Club's choice of Lindsey Angell and Vincent Gale was perfect casting. Mind you, I did cringe at the shocking epithet uttered repeatedly by Vanda as she stumbled onto the stage holus-bolus! Worthy of a good chortle nonetheless. Many thanks for a lovely play"
"This has got to be the best 2 person show I've seen. Vanda was very sexy and believable. Thomas was a great director looking for his new star. It held my attention right to the end. And what a twist the ending has. A must see!"
—John, Port Coquitlam
"I really enjoyed this play. I thought the performances were gutsy and authentic. You could have heard a pin drop during the entire show-good sign of an engaged audience. When it was over, everybody was left musing over how the story unfolded...and "poof" how it ended"
—Bobbi, West Vancouver
"My sister and I were spellbound with the performances of both Lindsay & Vincent, as they seamlessly slipped from fantasy to reality and back—this was amazing how they moved their roles in and out of timelines. The play was hilarious, smacking of smut and totally entertaining! We loved it! Thanks for a fantastic performance"
—Carole and Diane, Coquitlam
"Lindsey Angell was exceptional. Her deft switches of character and comic timing were great. All in all a very enjoyable evening, even if S&M isn't really your thing!"
—Chris, West Vancouver
"The two performers were absolutely brilliant. The dialogue was intense and how they slipped in and out of the play they were rehearsing and the play they were performing seemed natural and unrehearsed. The chemistry was blazing and their rapport was electric. Because of the rapidity and exchange of lines, there was a brief minute of silence as he was putting on her boots that was both silently loud and deeply intimate. Absolutely a fantastic play"
"Highly recommend this one! 2 actors, 4 characters with fine but distinct lines between them. Very riveting....pay close attention you'll want to catch all of the nuances!"
"Very well-acted, hilarious, sometimes confusing, sometimes erotic, sad at other times. Had to catch my breath at times and yet didn't want it to stop"
"Sexy and smart. Lindsey did a great job at titillating old men and switching accents"
"Wonderful performance by both actors. Have to be on your toes to keep up with the alternative reality depicted by the here and now vs. the reading. Then the reading morphs into the here and now. And the genders switch and switch again. Utterly amazing and thoughtful. I loved it and thank you"
—Arlene, North Vancouver
"Brilliant performance of this complex story. Great to have a historical perspective of it, as well"
"I loved it! It was clever and the chemistry between the two actors was great. Loved how they slid between the characters in the play within the play and themselves. The twists and turns were really good!"
"Excellent production. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Two wonderful performances in a complex play that almost needs to be seen twice. Thanks for continuing to give us recent New York plays even though some of them could be "risky" at the box office. These are the kind of shows that keep me renewing my membership"
"I enjoyed this play very much. Both of the actors gave a remarkable performance. Bravo"
"Very risqué, full of admiration for those actors! Enjoyed it very much, laughed when I didn't think I should be laughing, intriguing (made me think!), and very entertaining"
"After reading the promotional material, I was a little concerned about the sexual content. I was pleasantly surprised at how they handled the subject. The acting was amazing. The dialogue was so well-timed and the two characters were perfectly cast. We came away feeling we'd love to see it again as it left you with some interesting questions? We certainly were entertained and would highly recommend it to anyone. Well done!!"
"Maximum enjoyment!!!! Lots of laughter; clever; witty; well-written and well-acted"
—Jennifer, White Rock
"A really thought-provoking piece of theatre with outstanding performances by Lindsey Angell (terrific!) and Vincent Gale"
"Excellent show, superb acting, very well done"
—Dorothy and Brian, North Vancouver
"I was not quite sure what to expect. Although I have read the manuscript, you are never sure with these productions whether you are further enslave or emancipate the audience. Lindsey Angell picks the part up by the scruff of its throat and delivers a captivating performance! Bravo"
