Audience Comments

"Such talented actors and musicians! They thorough entertained us!"
—Wendy, Vancouver

"Very simply—enjoyed it thoroughly"
—George, Vancouver

"One of the top 3 I've seen at Arts Club in 30 years. I was absolutely transfixed. Amazing, amazing talents"
—Patricia and Kim

"An amazing combination of acting and musical talent. We saw the show when it first came to Vancouver several years ago, with the same performers, but were equally entertained the second time around"
—Bernard

"It is most unusual to combine great musicianship with superior acting ability. Wonderful show"
—Gerry, Vancouver

"This production was fantastic! From the moment the two men took their places on the piano benches, you knew you were in for an entertaining evening! We loved the banter and facial expressions with every scene. Laughter is truly the best medicine! Well done boys! Worth the hour and half drive in from Chilliwack for sure! Thank you"
—Penelope, Chilliwack

"One of the best productions of ANY play, EVER!"
—Bev, North Vancouver

"Fantastic! Loved every minute of it"
—Barbara, Richmond

"I thoroughly enjoyed 2 Pianos 4 Hands. The enthusiasm of the men performing drew me into their experiences. I am very sorry to hear they are retiring"
—Alyson, Vancouver

"Saw it with friends last night. It was fantastic! What talent!"
—Elaine, Richmond

"I liked the play very much. This was my choice so far on the best production!"
—Dory

"I attended the production twice. Once with my partner in Season Tickets and another with a 15-year-old and a 13-year-old, both piano students. How to produce a show that is enjoyed by a very large spectrum of the public is a difficult and challenging event. The energy level and intensity of the performance must take its toll on the two gentlemen at the piano, but they are consummate performers. A big thank you two both of them, we all loved it."
—Marie

"Absolutely fabulous...how delicious! Brought back many memories as a music student, the Conservatory exams etc. Ted Dykstra and Richard Greenblatt are fine musicians and their selections a delight in remembering the pains of a learning curve for perfection. Makes one realize how very few opportunities concert goers have to hear two piano/musician presentations in the classical field. Thank you for a very special and fun evening"
—Marion, Vancouver

"I loved it—Dykstra and Greenblatt are wonderful actors and very fine pianists who combined silliness with sober sadness too. Great set—simple but adaptable and easy on the eyes. However, for me the take-home message was more significant than knowing that only a very few become truly great pianists. Diligent practice confers the ability to play for one's own enjoyment (and that of others) and is an entree into a magical world"
—Abby, Vancouver

"We enjoyed a terrific evening watching 2 Pianos 4 Hands at the Arts Club Theatre Company. What wonderfully funny and talented actors performed. Thanks for a most enjoyable and entertaining evening out!"
—Laurel, Langley

"We attended 2 Pianos 4 Hands at the Stanley Theatre last evening, April 10. I would not hesitate to go back and see it again tonight! I cannot adequately express my delight with this production—I am the mother of a Royal Conservatory graduate pianist, who enjoyed every minute of my daughter's musical education. My husband and I did not pressure her to make music her chosen career; she, in fact, became a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. What she DID become as she worked her way through the endless scales, theory courses, Music Festivals, recitals, etc. etc. was a lover of fine music, and that is exactly what we hoped would happen. She attended the production with us and laughed out loud, as I did, at the many funny scenarios that brought back lovely memories of her hard work learning the intricacies of playing piano. I thank you most sincerely for this wonderful evening and the many special moments throughout the evening"
—Bonnie, North Vancouver

"Enjoyed 2 Pianos 4 Hands more than any play this season. In fact, I laughed myself silly! I loved the play when I first saw it years ago, but enjoyed it even more this time around. Teddy's expressive face just slayed me—and the silliness is countered by the beautiful and sometimes solemn music. Wonderful!"
—Lou, Delta

"What a spectacular, impactful performance. The music was amazing and the comedy perfection. My husband who did not have the benefit of piano lessons as a child enjoyed the show as much as I who felt that some of my personal experience had contributed to the play. It was a delightful evening that brought back many wonderful and angstful memories"
—Robyn, Port Moody

"Absolutely fabulous. Brought back so many memories. Thanks to two amazing actors and musicians"
—Margaret, Vancouver

"What a fabulous show! Our crowd ranged from a person who had never had a piano lesson to someone who makes his living in music, and we all enjoyed this production immensely. Funny, well-acted, and spot on"
—Maggie, Vancouver

"Thought the play was great...well-done and super talented piano playing....bravo!!"
—Doug

"Totally excellent. A great blend of humour and great music. Thanks"
—Stuart

"This show, sadly their last go-round, was beyond my expectations. Not only were the performers very adept, indeed, on the keys, but also the storyline was hilarious—and touching. The Stanley Theatre, in its intimacy and decor, was excellent for this experience, and my seat was perfect (which I knew it would be). I'm so glad that I had the very good sense to buy a ticket to 2 Pianos 4 Hands soon after the Arts Club brochure (always eagerly anticipated) arrived in my mailbox. Audience members—in the line-up, the foyer, and seated around me—were very excited both before, during, and after the show; lots of fun exchanging enthusiasms! Parking is always a pain, but I got lucky, even though my arrival in the area was later than intended"
—Lynne, Richmond

"Fantastic show! Funny, moving, altogether enjoyable. It just seems a bit unfair that two guys should have so much talent, in so many fields!"
—Douglas, Vancouver

"Very entertaining! So much talent!"
—AnneLee, Abbotsford

"Simply wonderful. What talent they have. We really enjoyed. Had seen it when the Stanley put it on back in 1997"
—Marilyn, Richmond

"What a wonderful entertaining evening we spent last night watching 2 funny, talented and amazing performers! It took me back to my days as a piano student as well as watching my own children at recitals through their years as students. Sad to know that this is their farewell tour and the show will end"
—Donna, Surrey

"Loved, loved, loved it. So entertaining and funny. Anyone who has had a child that needed to practice anything understands the challenges, even if it was not the piano. Also really enjoyed their amazing piano playing. Makes me want to learn how"
—Sandy

"A wonderful experience of comedy and amazing musical talent. We are so pleased we chose to attend this production. Congratulations Arts Club on a fantastic production!"
—Clarice and Peter, North Vancouver

"This play was the highlight of this season's program so far. We laughed a lot but we also got a better sense of all the anguish and heartaches surrounding piano education and careers. Ted and Richard were superb in their difficult and versatile roles"
—Gideon

"I thought it was absolutely fantastic. The two men were so in sync"
—Pamela, Surrey

"Amazing show! In all honesty, when I saw the two pianos on stage and the minimal set, I was preparing myself to be bored, but the moment it started I was fully engaged, and the show completely blew me away! Superb talent—it was a humbling experience to watch the show unfold and such fantastic acting/musical ability. I have told my friends that 2 Pianos 4 Hands is a must see! LOVED IT! :D"
—Lynda, Burnaby

"I've already sent a message to Mr. Dykstra and Mr. Greenblatt so I feel perfectly free to continue the lovefest. This show speaks to everyone whether a pianist or not. For me, like many in the audience, it opened the floodgates: disastrous recitals, marginal teachers, unrealistic plans for a career like Anton Kuerti(!). Laughter, tears, memories illicited by the words, music and physical comedy of two superb artists. I also applaud their choice of an encore—a delicate and musical adaptation of "Sheep May Safely Graze" and so we floated out of the Arts Club theatre with Bach swirling around in our heads. I am proud to claim these performers as Canadian treasures"
—Kathy, Qualicum Beach

"This is my 4th time attending this production. Many years ago, I saw them at the Van. Playhouse Theatre. It was so entertaining, I asked 3 others to attend the next one. That was with 2 women in the production. Last month I attended as an Arts Club Seasons Ticket Holder. I LOVED it once again. Enough to bring my daughter, daughter in law, and 9-year-old granddaughter. We THOROUGHLY enjoyed it, especially as a family and the appropriateness of my granddaughter taking lessons at this time. This is my second season as a ticket holder and I have absolutely been very impressed with every production presented. Thank you"
—Marion, Burnaby

"I can't remember when I've had a better time at the theatre. It's one of those shows where, as soon as you leave, you realize you already want to see it again. I loved the play. There were so many laughs and the acting was superb"
—Deborah, Burnaby

"I thoroughly enjoyed the play. It brought back so many memories of my own adventures in learning to play the piano. Hysterical and moving all in one. I'm so glad I was able to see the play before its final run ended"
—Margot

"I had seen this fabulous play in Vancouver many years back and was so thrilled to bring my 11-year-old (piano player) son along to Friday night's performance. We were both laughing so hard. When we told friends about the play, he remembered more tricks and lines then I did! The whole thing must have inspired him because he has spent more time playing the piano in the last two days then in the whole two weeks of Spring break! It was a real treat to see this funny and touching play again!"
—Annie, Delta

"Thoroughly enjoyed our afternoon at the performance. Did not know what to expect and were fantastically surprised at the whole performance. Best show we have seen in a long time. Hats off to all involved with the production!!!"
—Helen, Langley

"Excellent!!! I really enjoyed the play. The actors were amazing, entertaining and very engaging"
—Luba

"Excellent show! I was pleasantly surprised. Arts Club you have excelled again"
—Linda, Surrey

“Aimed at anybody who ever studied music but still universal enough that my husband, who never took music lessons loved it and laughed most of the time. Real life stand-up comedy!"
—Joanna

"I recently saw your production of 2 Pianos 4 Hands. It was by far the most entertaining show I'd seen in quite some time. It was poignant, yet at the same time hopeful, and the performances were brilliant. My granddaughter saw the show with me and was equally blown away. All I can say is WOW!"
—Christine, New Westminster

"My wife and I saw matinee yesterday. I have to say that this was one of the best productions that we have seen in our 11 years of subscribing to the Arts Club. Messrs. Dykstra and Greenblatt are two very multi-talented performers and I hate to think that they will soon be 'hanging up their hats' so-to-speak. I would love to see this show every year. Thanks so much for quality theatre that just gets better and better every year"
—Ken

"FUN, funny, really funny. Unbelievable talent"
—Harri, West Vancouver

"I took my friend to this play yesterday afternoon for his birthday and we both thoroughly enjoyed it! The acting, comedic timing, and storyline were both entertaining and meaningful. Really well-done!"
—Emily

"Great play. I really enjoyed it. Classical music isn't my thing but this play provided just the right dose and mixed in some wonderful humour. Great job everyone"
—Dave, North Vancouver

"An excellent show which was very unique and gave a real insight into the difficulties in choosing a challenging life goal that may not be achievable but worth pursuing all the same. I gained a greater understanding and appreciation of the intricate complexities of classical music. All this was delivered with wonderful humor and great passion by Ted Dykstra and Richard Greenblatt"
—Christine, Vancouver

"If you, or your friends, had music lessons, then much of the conversations are So familiar and So amusing! Thanks to two very talented musicians, time flew by"
—Elizabeth, North Vancouver

"My favourite play of the season—the script was brilliant, the format original, and the acting supurb. Congratulations, Arts Club!"
—Cynthia, West Van

"A thoroughly enjoyable show that would bear repeating"
—JoAnn

"We all loved the show! Laughed the evening away. Thanks"
—Margaret

"It was great fun, so well-acted and so true"
—Ann

"This was such an entertaining production particularly as I reflected on my years of taking piano lessons, attending recitals, and local festivals. My dad was so much like the guy in the play who didn't want you to exclusively be a musician at the expense of being a good student, athlete, SUPERKID. I laughed a lot and feel privileged to have seen Ted and Richard before they retire this production"
—Barbara

"A top-notch display of talent. Well worth a standing ovation. Great pianists both- and very funny to boot. I have recommended it to all our friends"
—Tony, Vancouver

"Where to start? Not only did this production reignite a desire in me to learn and understand the 'science' of music, the audience, en masse, found the 'human condition' so flawlessly depicted in its fast-moving vignettes by these two artists to be at times screamingly funny. Winding up the whole was a display of virtuosity that could not help but skip the heartbeat of any lover of classical music. Highly recommended to anyone who breathes, but especially to those who may have themselves taken piano lessons"
—Norma, Abbotsford

"Wow! I was spellbound and thoroughly entertained. We truly appreciated the multi-talented performers!"
—Donnaleen

"Incomparable and delightful. The first part was full of nostalgia and took me back 70 years to piano teachers no longer with us. The second part was tinged with regret (or envy) because I never came close to the accomplishment of these two virtuosi. Their insight and wit kept us laughing with the recollection of half-forgotten memories"
—Paul, North Vancouver

"It was a delight! Suitable for teen agers and older"
—Mary, Vancouver

"Hilarious. I have never taken piano lessons. I felt deprived that I couldn't when I was a child. Maybe it was a good thing? 2 very talented performers both dramatically and as pianist. Definitely would recommend this production"
—Robyn, Richmond

"Loved it! This brought back a lot of childhood memories. I think I've digested the big meal I had prior to seeing the show by laughing so much. Go see it!"
—Tina

"Outstanding! Uplifting music, wonderful piano laying, true-to-life characterizations of what it is like to get a child to practise an instrument, absolutely hilarious dialogue, and an obvious rapport between the two characters. We loved it and would highly recommend this production to everyone—you won't be sorry!"
—Cammi, Vancouver

"Brilliant production—excellent piano playing—could have listened all evening"
—Phil, Burnaby

"Delightful performance. Worthy of the standing ovation!"
—Darryll

"A delightful, comic look back on endless piano lessons and the disappointment of not "getting the job." How fantastic that Richard and Ted have gone on to successful careers and still maintained their love of and talent at the keyboard. Truly entertaining"
—Sherry, Burnaby

"This play was the most amazing exposé of my piano lessons that I have ever seen! Brilliantly written and choreographed, Ted and Richard hit every milestone, festival, and exam memory that I had! Their playing was brilliant and their humour and acting superb. I have shared this with my music therapy colleagues as so many of us came through the RCM and Kiwanis Festival systems. It is a must-see. This was one of my favourite plays this year!"
—Susan, Vancouver

"Absolutely delightful. I laughed so hard I was crying"
—Heather

"What a great performance! The 2 actors are so talented—not only are they great actors, writers, and comedians but fantastic pianists! Really enjoyed it. They really captured all the subtleties in the piano lessons experience"
—Karen

"It was my first play to see and loved it. Very funny. For sure its not my last one"
—Shinae

"2 Pianos 4 Hands was brilliantly entertaining from the first piano note to the last. I thoroughly enjoyed the whole show. Richard and Ted are very talented performers—I laughed, I cried, I walked out of the theatre with a great big smile on my face! Bravo!"
—Dana

"As I have done in the past, I bought tickets for my parents for a show for Christmas. This year it was 2 Pianos 4 Hands. They saw it last night and told me today it was excellent. They both took piano lessons as children and said it brought back memories of their early lessons and they also said the piano playing was incredible. This is the third show I have sent them to (previously they went to Do you Want What I Have Got? and Billy Bishop Goes to War) and they have enjoyed them all. It is an easy present for me to give and an enjoyable one for them to receive. Thanks"
—Debbie

"That was a fantastic show! Brought back many memories. I might even decide to play a few tunes on my piano—although it has been quite a while. Food for thought as well for parents who are currently trying to persuade their kids to continue practicing—is it worth the time and money? I would say 'yes' as one learns discipline and experiences the gift of music!"
—Mel

"For anyone who has ever taken even a single music lesson, here is the moment to relive every excruciating and wonderful moment from that time. Packed with both humour and pathos, 2 Pianos 4 Hands is truly engaging and should not be missed"
—Patrick, Nanaimo

"Great show by two very talented Canadians. They are to be congratulated for creating, writing, directing, and performing the show 8 times a week. When talent and commitment combine, stupendous shows happen. We are spreading the word"
—Heather

"Fantastic! Felt like I was reliving the pain, drama and joys of my own past musical life! (www.duoscarbo.com) Well-written, funny, and poignant"
—Elena

"What a great production! My husband and I enjoyed it from beginning to end. In fact, this was the first time my husband didn't get the nods. Thanks so much for an enjoyable afternoon"
—Lorraine, Chilliwack

"We thoroughly enjoyed this show. We remarked that we hadn't laughed out loud so often during a performance since we cannot remember when. The two performers were excellent and we are recommending the show to all our friends"
—Peggy, Pitt Meadows

"A very funny production and perfect for anyone who has had piano lessons, or I suspect any kind of music lesson. But the friend I went with has had no musical lessons of any sort & loved it. Very cleverly executed and brilliant piano playing. I have recommended it to a few friends"
—Patrick, Port Coquitlam

"I just had to submit a review for "2 Pianos 4 Hands" because our group had such a fantastic time at this production. The show brought back so many memories, whether as a child suffering through practicing and trying to master "The Birch Canoe," or as the parent trying to survive listening to it! My mother, who worked for many years as a tutor, could also relate to the long-suffering teachers, the headaches, and the strong desire to just "take a little nap". The show was hilarious and so well-acted. The music was great too. This is definitely a must-see show. Thanks so much, Arts Club!"
—Carol, Vancouver

"This was a wonderful production. It will bring back memories of your youth whether you took music lessons, played sports or did anything else at your parents behest that required effort and practice"
—Donald, Vancouver

"Fantastic...funny from the beginning, highlights their talent, paced perfectly. So enjoyable to sit, relax and laugh! Thanks for arranging the show!"
—Lynn, Vancouver

"2 hrs of laughter that hit my own 12 years of childhood piano experiences including the Kiwanis Music Festivals, competitions with others, piano exams, desire to be a concert pianist, and peaking at age 14 to a "T." Brilliantly brings to life realities each of us face growing up, and now as parents guiding kids. Awesome opportunity on Talkback Tuesday session to speak to Ted & Richard about their production, how it came about, hear their creative process and more. Best takeaway was their inspiration and encouragement for lesser mortals to continue making music for your own personal, creative growth, enjoyment/fulfillment, regardless of if one never becomes a professional musician.... I have just enrolled in piano lessons again after a 35+ year hiatus. Thank you, Ted & Richard"
—Angela

"The humour in this play will appeal to a diverse audience, and if you have ever lived in a home where you or a family member took piano lessons, you will especially enjoy and relate to the dynamics. Very clever interaction between the performers, and they made the complex transitions seamless. The only negative is that the total of 20 minutes of piano playing at the opening, and the closing, and the encore of the performance, while masterful, added nothing to the play and their editing would have been welcome"
—Liam, Port Coquitlam

"Anyone who's ever taken piano lessons, or stood over a practicing child can relate. Hilarious, evocative, an utter delight. The piano playing buddies were wonderful, and so were their teachers, those rather bizarre artistes who had to teach kids piano for their sins. I especially loved the gentle snoring of the one with the bad back—poignant-comic timing A+."
—Carol

"Well you have done it again! The production has aged beautifully since I saw it at The Playhouse about 15 years ago. It was absolutely enchanting, played with incredible charm and clever wit. I didn't think I would laugh as much as during Boeing Boeing, but I was still wiping mascara off on my way home! (mostly from laughing but there were many sweetly poignant moments as well) These dudes are so VERY,VERY FUNNY and seriously talented. Kudos to Vanessa for guiding another wonderful talk-back"
—Donia, Delta

"Ted and Rich give an extremely professional performance which, although they have done it together over 900 times, seemed like the first. Full of life, vigor, laughs and of course talent on the keyboard. Sandra and I really enjoyed the show"
—Tom, Delta

"WOW! I was completely mesmerized, utterly amazed, and totally entertained. This is a fabulous show and everyone should see it. More importantly though if you have ever taken or made your child take piano lessons, you really should attend. I am sorry that this is the farewell tour of this production because I don't think enough people will get to see it!"
—Pat, Delta

"Wow another stellar performance that blew us away. We enjoyed this so much, my fingers had a great workout on my knees playing along. Even though I can hardly play a tune on a piano we could totally relate to the stories and so many delightful memories. Rave on, rave on and on, you are the best!"
—Donna, Gibsons

"Loved it! Clever....funny...two very gifted musicians. Spot on with those piano teacher memories"
—Jan, Delta

"Superb! I can't recall a production that has so overwhelmed us with content and talent. Comedy that will have you in tears but at the same time, we were awed by the skill and musicality of both pianists (the 4 hands!). One of the BEST Arts Club productions we have experienced in our 15 years of being subscribers"
—Colin

"2 Pianos 4 Hands was amazing! We thoroughly enjoyed this performance. They sounded so good together, it was like one person playing. They are so talented, they just bounced off each other. Combining their expert piano playing with their acting and antics was most engaging. It was especially captivating for anyone who had taken piano lessons as a child! So many things we could relate to. Thank for a most enjoyable evening!!"
—Lana, Vancouver

"Absolutely marvelous. Must not be missed"
—Jane, Richmond

"This show was definitely one of my favourites this season. Great playing and great comedy. I really enjoyed it and have already told at least 4 people they should go and see it"
—Lesley

"Absolutely excellent!!!"
—Ursula

"I wasn't sure what to expect but decided to have an open mind and what a mind opening. Incredible and delightful piano playing. The piano lesson skit brought back many memories - mostly bad as I am almost tone deaf. But to laugh is a good thing. I realized how much hard work and dedication it takes to become a great pianist. Try as you might, you still may not be accepted into Julliard School of Music. But if you can still enjoy playing either for yourself, for others privately or in front of an either paid or unpaid audience—then lucky you. The nominal sum of $ 45 a ticket was merely a trifle of the enjoyment I received. After all, 10,000 performances—they must be pretty good"
—John, Vancouver

"Best play I have seen so far. Very entertaining and excellent performance. I would see it again!"
—Vera, Vancouver

"Fabulous, mesmerizing, and funny. Loved every second and note!"
—Lesley, Langley

"We enjoyed the production very much. The review on the web site really portrays the experience of the evening extremely well. We laughed a lot while, at the same time, were in awe of Richard and Ted's talent on the piano"
—Russel

"Fast-paced and utterly delightful! A nostalgic trip that audience members, young and old, can relate to. Both actors were spellbinding in their comedic and piano-playing virtuosity. The encore piece [Sheep May Safely Graze] was breathtaking and the whole production deserved the standing O from a thoroughly entertained audience"
—Su, Vancouver

"Great Show! Enjoyed it Tremendously!"
—Pam, Vancouver

"Totally reminiscent, delightful, thought-provoking and hilarious"
—Tannis, Aldergrove

"A thoroughly enjoyable show. Funny, poignant, sad, happy, just so many emotions. I loved it"
—Sheena, Richmond

"Absolutely spectacular! Riveting! Could not believe the brilliance of the duo, both from a musical and acting standpoint....let alone writing the whole play! Bring more entertainment of this caliber and you will have to build 10 stories onto the Stanley to accommodate the audiences! Thanks for a wonderful season...can't wait for the next!"
—Hilary, Vancouver

"Excellent performance and non-stop hilarity! Definitely a great show for friends, dates or the entire family, especially those who have had to endure any type of music lessons"
—Robert, Vancouver

"What a wonderful production. Ted and Richard are consummate performers, wonderfully mixing their acting skills with brilliantly choreographed and executed piano pieces. The story of their respective childhood dramas as they both embark upon a journey to become professional concert pianists is, in turns full of great comedy and pathos. We are taken on a joyful, sad, poignant and thought-provoking ride with these two characters as they discover the high and lows of trying to master the classical piano. Their respective portrayals of music teachers past was so comedic, (especially the portrayal of the Sister and Scarletti by Ted). I especially enjoyed the part of the show which contained some contemporary pop, (the 'Billy Joel' part was brilliantly done). Act 1 was full of laughs as we see the early years of training. Act 2 was more dramatic as both characters learned that talent alone will not make you good enough to succeed in some circles. The fairly spartan set was used to maximum effect, especially the use of the back lit screens and the two 'Grands' sounded wonderful. All in all a fantastic show to see, I am so glad I could watch the version with the two original creators. I felt that each line and piece they delivered had more personal meaning because of this. A must see for anyone who has ever wondered what it takes to be a success in the classical music world, or just anybody who loves great classical music and very fine acting!"
—Sheldon, Vancouver

"As season ticket holders my husband and I attended the first preview night. We loved it. In fact I enjoyed it so much I bought two more tickets and took my mother to see the show 4 days later! She also loved it, and I enjoyed it just as much the second time! Terrific show, highly recommend it"
—Helen

"Excellent performance of two exceptionally talented individuals! Every young person should see it as it is not just about mastering piano, but about persuading your goals, and dedication and hard work required for achieving them"
—Olena

"My wife enjoyed and understood perfectly all the nuances and skits acting out episodes with their teachers. I did also and never took a piano lesson in my life!"
—Pat, Vancouver

"Fantastic!!! Thoroughly enjoyed the whole performance. Will recommend to all my friends & acquaintances. Thank-you"
—Caryn, Burnaby

"I laughed so hard, I cried. Anyone who has ever studied or taught any musical instrument must see this wonderful show. Ted Dykstra and Richard Greenblatt are among the best pianists, comedians, and actors that I have ever seen"
—Elizabeth

"This was such an entertaining production particularly as I reflected on my years of taking piano lessons, attending recitals and local festivals. My dad was so much like the guy in the play who didn't want you to exclusively be a musician at the expense of being a good student, athlete, SUPERKID. I laughed a lot and feel privileged to have seen Ted and Richard before they retire this production"
—Barbara, Vancouver

"A wonderful production. The performers' portrayals of the progression of their musical development through the years—from the time as a pair of kids dragged kicking and screaming through practice sessions to their virtuoso adult performance levels—brought tears of laughter and remembrance to my eyes"
—Joan, Vancouver

"My daughter, son-in-law, and I really enjoyed 2 Pianos 4 Hands. I had seen it before several years earlier at a different venue, but did not enjoy as much as your production"
—Daphne

"I wanted to come back every night. It was fabulous the first time in Vancouver and is even better now"
—Stan, Hood River, OR

"Excellent! Most enjoyable show at the Stanley this season. I saw the same show at the Playhouse in Dec 1999 but didn’t remember how good it was. The musical talent, mixed with the humour, of the writers/performers was exceptional"
—Clive, North Vancouver

"I thought this was the best piece I've seen in my two years as a subscriber. Lots of fun and a reminder of my many years as a piano student"
—Pamela, Vancouver

"Once again, totally awesome!!! We loved every minute of it—these guys are fantastic. We laughed, we remembered, we laughed more, we were awed by the artistic talent…. What more can I say. So glad we got to see this performance and had to send someone else—came home and bought tickets for our daughter! Thank you ALL so much!"
—Sharon, Chilliwack

"Like always!!!! Terrific and entertaining...enjoyed every musical note and dialogue.... My heart is still playing the tunes.... Good job!!!"
—Jorge, Vancouver

"Loved it everything I want in theatre. Bravo"
—Pat, Richmond

Don't miss seeing the originators in their element! It is a day/evening you will not soon forget. Congrats on touching my heart and taking me back to a forgotten time. I smiled"

—Shelley, Port Moody

"What a wonderful allegory illustrating two young men's decision on what to do when you don't quite measure up. Reminiscent of Victor Borge, these two combine humour with virtuosic talent as concert pianists. I felt wonderfully buoyed by my afternoon at the Stanley"
—Jean, Vancouver

"We totally enjoyed this production of 2 Pianos 4 Hands. One of the very best ever. Having studied music personally for many years, so many things resonated. Good AND bad. The actors were gift musicians…a bonus! When one laughs and cries in the same five minutes, a production can often claim success! Thank you Arts Club!!"
—Marion, North Vancouver

"Entertaining! This is a unique production; it is rare to see talented actors who also play the piano like a virtuoso. I applaud both the production and Stanley Theatre for bringing this to Vancouver"
—Corey, Burnaby

"Once again a smashing success. We both thoroughly enjoyed this production. It provoked a number of memories of times and places in both our pasts, where we turned to each other and smiled, or better yet laughed out loud. Well done Bravo!"
—Glenn, White Rock

"Absolutely hilarious...and poignant too! I have never taken music lessons of any kind but could totally relate to this "journey" of joy, fear, work, angst, and competition. Thank you for the opportunity to see this production with its original writers/directors/actors. It was a joyful evening!"
—Patricia, Vancouver

"It was beyond excellent!!! It brought back memories of all those childhood piano lessons"
—Johanna, Vancouver

"I loved this production—even more now that the guys are older than I did when we saw it some years ago. Thanks for bringing in 2 comedies this season—it was great!"
—Mary Jean

"I have enjoyed all the productions this year but I have to say this was our favourite! The story line was excellent and the humour was outstanding. I am strongly suggesting my harp teacher see this"
—Judi, New Westminster

"I attended the afternoon performance of 2 Pianos 4 Hands on Sunday March 24th. It was an excellent performance by two very gifted pianists who responded to the enthusiastic audience with an encore. I am sure we would have liked even more. I last saw this production at the Playhouse Theatre in 1997 and have remembered it fondly 16 years later!"
—Sheila, Vancouver

"A wonderful production. I thoroughly enjoyed—even for the second time"
—Joy

"I already sent you my review but wanted to add that I loved the show! What a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon, walking down Granville street and having lunch then listening to two wonderful people make wonderful music!"
—Therese, North Vancouver

"Hilariously funny, touchingly poignant, and far too familiar of my own piano lesson experience! I absolutely loved the performance, my 88-year-old grandmother who is a lifetime theatre fan said it's one of the best shows she's ever seen! Thank you so much for sharing this masterpiece with Vancouver"
—Kate, North Vancouver

"Absolutely amazing. The energy of the two of them was "over the top"! My husband and I are not musicians nor had we ever taken piano lessons….. We still enjoyed the play so much. We are putting it as our TOP show of the season!"
—Sue, Vancouver

"Just as fun the second time as in 1997"
—Donald, Chilliwack

"What an entertaining performance! Lots of laughter and lots of piano lesson memories! The music was wonderful too—a double-barreled show—great humor and great music!"
—Sheena, Richmond

"I've been a member at the Stanley Theatre for the last 3 years. I'm still amazed and in awe, on how imaginative, artistic, creative and brilliant their plays are. I've never walked away from a play that I did not like and that is to say about 2 Pianos 4 Hands. Absolutely brilliant! The talent and the energy that these men possess, was amazing. I encourage anyone to go see this play and be blown away. True perfection. Thank you.
—Joao, Vancouver

"A wonderful combination of talent and comedy. Took me back to my piano lessons...F-A-C-E and All good boys deserve fudge. Richard and Teddy....I'm in awe of your abilities. Loved it, loved it, loved it!"
—Debora

"One of the best shows I've seen—clever, unique, excellent acting and amazing piano playing. Very funny! I've recommended it to everyone I know"
—Jill, Vancouver

"So very well done, we loved it so very much. Such talented guys"
—Mary-lynne, Vancouver

"Absolutely fabulous—haven't laughed so hard in ages. It reminded me of my childhood piano lessons and also of teaching our three children their first few years before sending them off to another teacher"
—Merna

"My face was exhausted from smiling after watching the productions. I related to so much of the trials of practising. Great show, such talent and joy"
—Michele, Gibsons

"This was a FANTASTIC show! We both loved every minute of it"
—Mark and Diane

"Marvelous production, clearly demonstrating the insight, charm, and musical ability of the two co-creators–actors. The stories they weave could be for anyone who has taken on a serious pastime in any field. Their timing and playing are impeccable. A very enjoyable evening's entertainment. You don't have to be a pianist to appreciate this play. Do see it and take your kids—they will love it, just like all the kids who attended last night did"
—Nic, Vancouver

"Fantastic! The whole family thoroughly enjoyed it! We're still laughing today"
—Elayne

"What a wonderful show! I haven't laughed like that in a long time. I relived all my years of piano lessons, festivals and exams. (This time, with humour.) I thought the "you must practice" dialogue a recorded version of my mother. Ted and Richard are amazing, multi-talented performers. I was amazed how quickly two hours passed and was sorry when the show ended"
—Joan, White Rock

"This was one of the best shows I have seen at the Arts Club. I love the quality of the music played so well as the hilarious skits they performed. The skits were so right on. I feel they must have been inspired from true life experiences (maybe theirs?). Great acting and they guys could also carry a note. Multi-talented and they so related to the audience. Loved to see them again"
—Judy, South Surrey

"Warmed our heart and made us laugh. It is not only about music, (which was great). It is a reflection of our young years, struggling into our chosen professions and growing into our maturity"
—Thom and Susan, North Vancouver

"This was truly brilliant and funny. Similar to a Victor Borge production in some ways. Great acting and music. Would highly recommend and even see it again. We had fun and came home uplifted"
—Johanna

"What was the most pleasant surprise to a wonderful evening of entertainment—beyond the obvious piano gifts of the two principals—was just how universal the story was. For anyone who ever took a piano lesson, their musical journey resonated well beyond the pieces performed. Bravo!!"
—Michael, Vancouver

"Justly deserved the standing ovation—funny and fabulous!"
—Anne, Coquitlam

"Fantastic. I want everyone to see this show before they finish their amazing run. We laughed ‘till our stomachs hurt and loved every minute. Such talent and would tell everyone that this is a must see"
—Gillian, White Rock

"This performance was clever and funny. The piano playing was outstanding. By the end of the performance, the audience felt that they knew these actors like neighbours"
—Heather

"Excellent show. Far exceeded our expectations. This show is not just for musical types, it will appeal to everyone. We will be back with family and friends"
—Brad

"This is one of my favourite plays. I grew up being the kid in music lessons and now as an adult I am in the teacher role. Most of the dialogue represents a memory of my own. This is one of the only plays I've watched where I'm belly laughing the whole way through. I rarely do that with most plays"
—Elisa, West Vancouver

"I loved the production as did the rest of the audience judging from the amount of uproarious laughter. We all related to at least some of the scenarios. Kudos to them"
—Pat, West Vancouver

"I loved this show! It made me laugh and also brought tears to my eyes. The pianists/actors definitely deserved the applause, cheers, and standing ovation they received from the audience"
—Janine, Surrey

"PAUL !! PAUL !! PAUL !! PAUL !! PAUL !! PAUL !! PAUL !! PAUL !!"
—Roberta, North Van

"Excellent production. A great mix of comedy and superb piano playing. I would recommend it to anyone, but especially those who have taken piano lessons or put their kids through piano lessons"
—Brian, Langley

"Exuberant performances! No piano training or esoteric knowledge of classical music required to enjoy this witty play. Consider myself privileged to see the farewell performances of the original co-creators of this work. Thanks to the best pianists in the neighbourhood!"
—Florence

"Great show. Enjoyed it from beginning to end. Very talented piano players and actors"
—Natalie

"Enjoyed by our entire family (teens and up). Good choice! Thanks for bringing this hilarious, innovative play to us"
—Toula, Vancouver

"My friend and I thoroughly enjoyed the performance we went to Saturday night! I was both funny and entertaining. Both men were talented in humour and musically"
—Julie, Vancouver

"We took our teenaged kids and we all loved the show. Again, the Arts Club brings amazing talent to the stage"
—Vincent

"What a treat! Sheer entertainment from start to finish. Virtuoso playing accompanied by very quick and hilarious dialogue. A play that many could easily relate to particularly those who have suffered through piano lessons and music practice"
—Vivien, Kelowna

"Highly inventive and unique performance! The show has an unscripted feel from beginning to end that keeps your attention focused. The music that accompanies is an enjoyable bonus"
—Donald

"Oh My! Was this ever wonderful. I'm sooo glad I got to see, and hear! These two. Insightful and fun"
—Mary, Nanaimo

"We laughed and laughed again. It's a great musical for anyone who have ever taken piano lessons. My 11 year old daughter saw this musical and was answering questions posed by the characters onstage. Run, don't walk, to see this farewell production. Bonus piano number for an encore. Well done Ted and Richard, we'll miss you. We sincerely hope you will be back on another production"
